Tirzepatide works by affecting two hormones that are released after eating. The two hormones are GLP-1 and GIP by mimicking they way these two hormones work.
GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1 and GIP stands for the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide. These hormones are involved in blood sugar control. In healthy people, these hormones message the pancreas to release insulin after eating and message the liver to lower the amount of glucose it’s producing. These instructions, when obeyed, make people feel full so they stop eating, which slows down digestion and lowers blood sugar.
Tirzepatide works by acting like these hormones and improves blood sugar control.
So, the drug helps the body release insulin when blood sugar is high, and helps the body remove excess sugar from the blood; it stops the liver from making and releasing too much sugar. In addition, it helps people to eat less.
Tirzepatide is more effective at lowering blood sugar and weight loss in type 2 diabetes patients than Semaglutide, an injected GLP-1 receptor agonist, or two commonly used forms of insulin when used in this setting.
Tirzepatide belongs to the glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonist family. GLP-1 agonists work by stimulating your pancreas to increase insulin. This additional insulin causes the stomach to empty over a longer period of time. The idea of the stomach processing food more slowly can seem counterintuitive to patients. The slow and consistent digestion is an early step in the chain reaction that makes Semaglutide an effective weight loss drug.
When the stomach takes more time to empty itself of food, it sends signals of “fullness” to the brain. The end result of this process is a powerful appetite suppression effect based on the patient’s own natural insulin production. This means patients can benefit from medically assisted weight loss without any need for invasive surgeries or harsh stimulants.
